"Throughout the last two decades of my professional career, I’ve witnessed firsthand the 'plight of the small business'.”

INTRODUCTION

Millions of people start new ventures each year. Of those that survive, 96% fail to scale beyond $10M in annual revenue. Throughout the last two decades of my professional career, I’ve witnessed firsthand the “plight of the small business”.

Anyone who’s owned (or worked for) a small business has undoubtedly faced distinct the challenges and frustrations that come with it. It feels so busy, yet somehow the company continues to tread water instead of take new ground in any major way. Communication is rarely as good as it should be. Mistakes are being made, things are slipping through the cracks, balls are being dropped, and
you begin to question whether or not you’ve hired the right people.

If your company has hit the $1M mark, it’s obvious you’ve already achieved a certain degree of success. You’ve likely even identified some of your organization’s issues and begun work to address them. For some reason however, the same problems keep resurfacing, the operational fire drills persist, and the positive results you’re looking for continue to evade you.

The bottom line is, growing your small business isn’t as easy or as fun as you’d hoped it would be; and the positive ending you’ve fantasized about is nowhere in sight. You have probably pondered, How will I ever elevate myself into a true Executive role or be able to step away someday, if I can’t trust my team to take ownership, successfully run our day-to-day, and take care of our customers without me?”

About- Our Story

THE PROBLEM

People that truly believe in their product or service want to share it with everyone. In order to do this, you must grow your organization and take it to the next level. This is where a new set of challenges presents itself. How do you grow your company and still provide meaningful solutions to your customers, without going belly-up in this ever-changing, fast-paced, and dynamic business landscape?

"How do you grow your company and still provide meaningful solutions to your customers, without going belly-up in this ever-changing, fast-paced, and dynamic business landscape?"

"I didn’t know where to start, or who to trust, and I certainly didn’t feel like I had the time for a deep-dive into finding out."

THE JOURNEY

Many years ago, like you, I set out to find out the answer to the problem above. Just as many executives and entrepreneurs would do, I began searching for literature that would educate me on how to proceed. I scoured the internet for resources, and that’s when I hit the first roadblock. As it turns out, there are thousands of business gurus out there who release over 11,000 new business books… every year! I didn’t know where to start, or who to trust, and I certainly didn’t feel like I had the time for a deep-dive into finding out.

Since at the time that idea didn’t work out, I came up with a new plan. I thought, “perhaps we’ll just defer to the experts”. Thus began our search for a consultant. I was surprised by what we encountered next. We stumbled across a number of one-man operations that appeared to be professionals “moonlighting” as consultants. Their websites looked low-budget, and their content didn’t inspire a lot of confidence that these individuals could improve our company (since what they were presenting for themselves didn’t look so good).

This caused us to shift our focus to some larger outfits. Unfortunately, the larger consultancies all seemed quite out of our league (because we were such a relatively small operation at the time). In a sense, it was almost embarrassing to contact them after seeing the logos of the corporate juggernauts with who they had worked.

The larger consultancies charge an arm and a leg for their services, but their facilitators seemed to be “less seasoned” in their careers. Apparently, the average entry age into these types of firms tends to be in the low 20s as their consultants are recruited just out of university.

For months we searched, but couldn’t find a good match. We wanted to partner with someone who was the right fit. Someone we could trust.

THE "SOLUTION"

Finding the right consultancy never panned out for us. Instead, we began experimenting with some of the trending and proven methodologies to strengthen our organization. It took several years of strategic management, organizational development, and change management to yield the results we were looking for.

I do not recommend researching, planning, implementing, evaluating, and refining your development programs internally from scratch (like we did). Yes, it can be done, but the learning curve, headaches, resource allocation, and other wastes are absolutely not worth it to save a few thousand dollars. In the end, you’ll spend much more trying to “do it in-house” and what’s worse, you’ll delay your organization’s growth.

The convenience, efficiency, and effectiveness of partnering with a consultant will have you improving productivity, enhancing teamwork, developing leaders, promoting positive work culture, and facilitating change much more quickly. Not to mention, using outside help will minimize disruption of your day-to-day operations and mitigate any negative impacts on your stakeholders.

"I’ve used the expertise gained to create a consultancy that IS a good match, IS the right fit, and IS the one small businesses can trust"

THE SILVER LINING

The extensive effort it took to learn about, implement, evaluate, and improve tools and methodologies for growth was not in vain. Fast forward several years, I’ve used the expertise gained to create a consultancy that IS a good match, IS the right fit, and IS the one small businesses can trust to help them get from $1M to $10M and beyond.
